It sounds like the Saw horror franchise will be making its move to TV. The franchise has had a successful film run. I remember the time when Lionsgate tried to end the franchise in 2010 with Saw: The Final Chapter. That didn’t last long.
Now with the upcoming installment Spiral: From the Book of Saw coming up with Chris Rock and Samuel L. Jackson, the franchise seems as strong as ever. So, the studio is now looking to produce a TV series.
The news comes from Lionsgate Television chairman Kevin Beggs. During an interview with Deadline, he said “We’ve just wrapped up Dear White People which was a really good experience, Blindspotting is coming up, American Psycho is in development. We’re always exploring what we can do in television with something like the Saw franchise, so that’s a conversation.”
It’s noted that “Beggs would not elaborate further, but I hear that Lionsgate TV is in early talks on a TV series adaptation of the book of Saw, from Mark Burg and Oren Koules’ Twisted Television.”
It’s not hard to imagine Saw as a TV series. I can see how they can stretch a story out of the course of multiple episodes. The question is can it be a good quality series worth watching? Maybe one day we’ll find out if the studio decides to move forward with the show.
