Patrick (H) Willems has released an interesting new video essay and it focuses on movie trilogies and explores why it’s so hard to end a trilogy. As you know, most trilogies that start out great end up having a disappointing third film. They just lose their steam, and this video explains why that is.
There are a few trilogies that I think did get it right, though! The Lord of the Rings trilogy, the original Indiana Jones trilogy, The Dark Knight trilogy, the original Star Wars trilogy, The Back to the Future trilogy, and the latest Planet of the Apes trilogy. Are there any others you can think of?
