The cost of living in Australia’s most famous TV and movie homes

They’re the homes of some of our favourite fictional characters from TV and film.

And now the actual cost of living in Australia’s most recognisable properties has been revealed by realestate.com.au.

From the Rafter family’s cottage to Karl and Susan’s home from Neighbours and the Mad Max beach house, take a look inside these real-life fictional properties and find out how much they cost to rent or buy.

Packed to the Rafters

The cosy home to one of television’s most beloved families is nestled in Sydney’s inner-west.

This cottage was owned by Packed to the Rafters characters Dave and Julie Rafter, and was often featured on the drama series.

Packed to the Rafters, which aired on Seven from 2008 to 2013, is considered to be one of Australia’s most popular homegrown shows.

Location: This home to one of TV’s most beloved families is nestled in Sydney’s inner-west 

The fictional family’s three-bedroom cottage at 8 Riverview Street in Concord last sold in December 2013 for $1.535million.

House prices have risen drastically since then, with the median price in the area now sitting at $2.342million.

Packed to the Rafters’ sequel series, Back to the Rafters, premiered in September last year on Amazon Prime Video.

Neighbours

Pin Oak Court on Vermont South in Melbourne is better known to Aussies and Brits as Ramsay Street, Erinsborough.

The TV-famous cul de sac has housed many of the characters from the long-running soap Neighbours, and attracts hundreds of tourists – mainly from the UK – each week.

Two of the homes on the street sold in the past couple of years.

Number 1, which is the home of Neighbours fan favourite Jarrod ‘Toadie’ Rebecchi, and before that Mrs Mangel, sold for $1.6million in May last year.

It has four bedrooms, a spacious kitchen and two bathrooms.

Number 5, the home of Dr Karl and Susan Kennedy, was purchased two years ago for $1.405million.

The median house price in Vermont South is $1.38million.

Offspring

Located in trendy Fitzroy in Melbourne, this stunning pad was the home of Australia’s most famous fictional obstetrician, Nina Proudman.

She settled into the property with her partner Patrick – before his death – and the couple’s daughter, Zoe, later on.

The early-1900s-built home is located on Napier Street and fetches $900 per night from renters as a popular Airbnb destination.

The striking designer home features three bedrooms and two bathrooms. 

The median house price in the area sits at $1.527million. 

Designer pad: Located in trendy Fitzroy, this stunning pad was the home where Australia’s most famous fictional obstetrician, Nina Proudman (played by Asher Keddie), lived with her partner Patrick – before his death – and their daughter, Zoe, later on

Mad Max 

The Mad Max house – home to cop-turned-road warrior Max Rockatansky – is located in Fairhaven, Victoria.

The beachside pad was most recently owned and sold by Boost Juice founder and reality TV star Janine Allis last November for $10million.

The stunning Great Ocean Road home was featured in the original 1979 Mad Max film as Max’s beach house and had garnered a lot of interest from buyers before the sale.

There are also generous open living spaces that provide clear, expansive views of the gorgeous beachside scenery and surrounding landscape.
