Nickelodeon and Paramount have decided to bring back the 2000 classic Snow Day in movie musical form. With Snow Day as simply a working title, production has begun in Montreal and is slated for release later this year. Here’s the synopsis if your memory is a little fuzzy.
Siblings Hal and Natalie Brandston discover that anything is possible on a snow day when a surprise winter whiteout offers them the chance to break routines, take giant risks and follow their dreams. Inspired to pursue his crush, Claire Bonner, Hal enlists the help of his best friend, Lane, to help him express his feelings, and Natalie decides she must challenge her arch nemesis, the Snowplowman, if she wants to pull off the task of creating a second snow day.
It’s being directed by Michael Lembeck and written by Samantha Martin, this update will star Ky Baldwin, Michaela Russell, Shelby Simmons, Fabi Aguirre, Jerry Trainor, Logan Aultman, Dominic Mariche, Myles Erlick, Monique Jasmine Paul, Destiny Rettinger, Lilly Bartlam, Viggo Hanvelt, Laura Bell Bundy, and Rob Huebel.
I have to wonder if they can capture the same magical feeling of a snow day. It never snowed where I grew up, but I was always pretty envious of the kids that could get snow days. But with Zoom being used more in classrooms, is the concept of a snow day off from school dying? Will kids have the same joy at seeing tons of snow outside or will they just have to drag themselves to a computer to do online school rather than get to play all day? Only time will tell, but hopefully the magic of snow days won’t be lost completely.
Are you excited to see this movie make a comeback? Should they just leave it alone and let it live in our collective nostalgia?
