We’ve got a new trailer to share with you today for Jennifer Hudson’s Aretha Franklin biopic Respect. The film will tell the entire life story of Frankin and her rise to stardom. It looks like a great biopic, and it looks like Hudson is going to give a wonderful performance.
Respect follows “the rise of Aretha Franklin’s career from a child singing in her father’s church’s choir to her international superstardom, Respect is the remarkable true story of the music icon’s journey to find her voice.”
In addition to Hudson, the film also stars Forest Whitaker, Marlon Wayans, Audra McDonald, Marc Maron, Tituss Burgess, Saycon Sengbloh, Hailey Kilgore, Tate Donovan, Heather Headley, Skye Dakota Turner, and Mary J. Blige.
Liesl Tommy (Mrs. Fletcher, The Walking Dead, Jessica Jones, Queen Sugar) makes her feature directorial debut with this movie from a script written by Tracey Scott Wilson (The Americans).
MGM was originally supposed to release the film last year, but now it will hit theaters this summer on August 13th, 2021.
