Marvel Studios has found a new director for its Blade movie. The film was originally supposed to be directed by Bassam Tariq, but he and Marvel ended up parting ways only a couple of months before it was supposed to start shooting. The movie will now be helmed by Yann Demange (71, White Boy Rick, Lovecraft Country ), and Michael Starrbury (When They See Us) is set to write a new script.
Mahershala Ali is still attached to star in the film with Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige producing. The report explains that Marvel is looking to go with “a darker tone on this film than other MCU projects have been in the past.”
After several weeks of meetings and pitches, Demange landed the job after “delivering a pitch that execs were excited about.”
Due to this little hiccup in production, Marvel had to rearrange the release schedule and Blade will now hit theaters on September 6th, 2024. Production is now scheduled to start next year in Atlanta.
