James Gunn Has Spoken to Marvel & DC About A Crossover Film

James Gunn

Speaking on social media, Gunn replied to a fan’s tweet asking about the chances of ever seeing a crossover between the Marvel Cinematic Universe and DC Extended Universe. Gunn said that he’s actually had casual talks with the powers-that-be at both companies, but doesn’t think it’s too likely despite stressing that it isn’t impossible.

“I’ve casually talked to the powers-that-be at both Marvel & DC about it,” Gunn said. “I would love for it to happen. I don’t think it’s likely, but I don’t think it’s an impossibility either. That said, just constantly seeing crossovers & mashups is less enchanting to me than a strong story.

“I find it disconcerting at times that many folks seem more interested in crossovers, cameos, references & post-credit scenes than they do the actual story & characters of a specific film! When making a film I spend 99.9% of my time thinking about story & character & .1% the rest.”

Currently, Gunn is readying to release his upcoming film, DC’s The Suicide Squad. The film has a star-studded cast that features returning stars Margot Robbie (Birds of Prey), Jai Courtney (Honest Thief), Joel Kinnaman (Suicide Squad), and Viola Davis (Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom) as Harley Quinn, Captain Boomerang, Rick Flag and Amanda Waller, respectively,

New actors include Idris Elba (Avengers: Infinity War), John Cena (Peacemaker),  Peter Capaldi (Doctor Who), David Dastmalchian (Dune), Daniela Melchior (Parque Mayer), Michael Rooker (Guardians of the Galaxy), Alice Braga (Elysium), Pete Davidson (The King of Staten Island), Joaquín Cosio (Spider-Man: Into the SpiderVerse), Juan Diego Botto (The Europeans), Storm Reid (Euphoria), Nathan Fillion (The Rookie), Steve Agee (Brightburn), Sean Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy), Mayling Ng (Wonder Woman), Flula Borg (Ralph Breaks the Internet), Jennifer Holland (Peacemaker), Tinashe Kajese (Valor) and Sylvester Stallone (Rambo).
