British Airways is planning to re-establish a short-haul flight operational base at London Gatwick.
The airline is talking with unions on the plan and the British Airline Pilots Association said it is in the ‘final stages of negotiations.’
BALPA acting general secretary Martin Chalk said it would ‘create a number of much needed new pilot jobs.’
“We hope to bring these talks to a conclusion shortly,” he added.
BA is looking to return to Gatwick with a new short-haul unit focused on domestic and short range international services after suspended short-haul flights from the airport last year.
BA owner IAG recently posted a £1.7 billion half-year loss.
