Anthony Russo Discuss Robert Downey Jr.’s Improvised Scene Between Tony Stark and Peter Parker in CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR — GeekTyrant

The relationship between Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark/Iron Man and Tom Holland’s Peter Parker/Spider-Man goes down as one of the most important and heartfelt in all the MCU. It was a huge blow to Peter to lose his mentor, father figure, and friend in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, but their relationship all began in the 2016 movie, Captain America: Civil War.

The film’s co-director Anthony Russo recalled a fun moment from shooting Civil War on the home release commentary alongside his brother/co-director Joe Russo and writer Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. As it turns out, Holland was still getting used to the blocking in his first scene with veteran actor RDJ, and when he missed one of the blocks, Downey improvised the line, “I’m gonna sit here, so you move the leg,” when Tony crossed the room to sit next to Peter on his bed. He didn’t have to stop the scene to fix the issue, or make Holland feel bad. The direction came off as very natural and very in character. Tony was always giving direction to Peter, and this seemed very fluid in their conversation.

So it made it into the final cut, and is a totally endearing scene. Check it out below.
