Before she became the Queen of Tejano Music, Selena Quintanilla was a young girl from Texas with big dreams and an even bigger voice. Selena: The Series explores her journey from singing small gigs to becoming the most successful female Latin artist of all time — and the years of hard work and sacrifice the Quintanilla family navigated together.
Selena Quintanilla-Pérez, known solely by her first name, was an American singer, songwriter, model, actress, and fashion designer who became one of the most beloved Mexican-American entertainers of the late 20th century before her tragic death in 1995 when she was shot and killed by her best friend and fan club manager, Yolanda Saldivar. Saldivar was convicted of murder and is currently serving a life sentence. Her life story was first adapted into a film in 1997 where the late singer was famously portrayed by Jennifer Lopez which earned Lopez her first Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress.
The series is created and executive produced by Moisés Zamora (American Crime) alongside Campanario Entertainment President Jamie Davila, Rico Martinez, Selena’s sister Suzette and Selena’s father Abraham Quintanilla Jr. and Simran A. Singh.
Selena: The Series will return with its second part on May 4.
