MCU alum and Oscar nominee Mark Ruffalo (Spotlight, Foxcatcher, I Know This Much Is True) and Oscar nominee Catherine Keener (Capote, Being John Malkovich, An American Crime) have boarded director Shawn Levy’s sci-fi action movie The Adam Project, also starring Golden Globe nominee Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool), Zoe Saldana (Guardians of the Galaxy), and Golden Globe winner Jennifer Garner (Alias), according to The Hollywood Reporter. Newcomer Walker Scobell and Alex Mallari, Jr. (Dark Matter) have also joined the cast in the feature from Skydance and Netflix.
In The Adam Project, Reynolds stars as a man who travels back in time to get help from his 13-year-old self. Together, they have to find their late father, who is now the same age as Reynolds, and set things right in order to save the future.
Ruffalo will play Reynolds’ dad in the movie as a brilliant physicist, with Keener playing the film’s villain, a woman who has stolen powerful technology from Ruffalo’s character. Scobell will play the younger version of Reynolds’ character. Mallari will portray the villain’s right hand.
The project the second collaboration between Reynolds and Levy, who previously worked together on the upcoming action-comedy Free Guy. The film will be directed by Levy (Stranger Things) from a screenplay written by Jonathan Tropper and David Ellison. Reynolds and Levi will both produce the action-adventure film through their respective production banners Maximum Effort and 21 Laps Entertainment. David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger are producing for Skydance.
