Are you ready to face your monsters?

Art from Sea of Solutide: The Director's Cut game

Back in 2019, Sea of Solitude graced PCs and consoles alike as it told the unfolding story of Kay and her monstrously strong emotions tied to isolation and loneliness. Now, in the midst of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the game might mean more than ever to players the world over, and it’s likely to take on new layers of meaning even for gamers who are set to return to the stylish world. And while it was originally developed by studio Jo-Mei and published by EA, Sea of Solitude is getting a titular director’s cut thanks to new publishers over at Quantic Dream.

As QD’s title page puts it,  Sea of Solitude promises players the opportunity to “adventure through a beautiful and troubling world where nothing is as it seems, to confront and conquer your fears.” That adventure will come with a new script and new voice acting to back it up, which is a dark and existential cherry on top of an already fantastic experience. Additionally, here’s what Quantic Dream touts for their new version:

  • AN EMOTIONAL ADVENTURE – Sea of Solitude: The Director’s Cut takes you on a beautiful and heart-pounding action-adventure with Kay, a girl so hopeless that she has turned into a monster. Guide her through the tempest towards tranquility as she faces off against relentless beasts of her own making who want to see her capsize and drown, unless she can summon the inner strength to face them.
  • A BEAUTIFUL AND TROUBLING UNIVERSE – Set in a fantastical drowned world, explore the unique and ever-changing environments by swimming, running and navigating, encountering monsters and overcoming challenging obstacles along the way.
  • ONLY FOR NINTENDO SWITCH — With features exclusive for the Nintendo Switch™, immerse yourself in the world of Sea of Solitude: The Director’s Cut with a customizable photo mode, gyroscope integration, and more that brings the director’s vision to life like never before.
  • UPDATED FROM 2019 VERSION – The Director’s Cut features a rewritten script, a new cast of voice actors, and augmented cut scenes and animations that convey the narrative and gameplay experience in the most complete way.

    • Voice over: English / French / German / Spanish – Spain / Japanese
    • Subtitles: Italian / Simplified Chinese / Traditional Chinese / Korean / Russian / Dutch / Portuguese – Portugal / Spanish – Latin America

Sea of Solitude: The Directors Cut arrives exclusively on the Nintendo Switch this March 4, 2021.
