Locke & Key Season 2 Adds Brendan Hines & More As Series Regulars
According to Deadline, Brendan Hines (The Tick) has joined Netflix’s Locke & Key as a series regular for the second season of Joe Hill’s hit supernatural drama that recently began production in Toronto. Aaron Ashmore (Veronica Mars) and Hallea Jones (Let It Snow), who recurred in Season 1, have been promoted to series regulars for the new season. Liyou Abere (Mrs. America, The Boys) has been added as a guest star for Season 2.
In Locke & Key, after their father is murdered under mysterious circumstances, the three Locke siblings and their mother move into their ancestral home, Keyhouse, which they discover is full of magical keys that may be connected to their father’s death. As the Locke children explore the different keys and their unique powers, a mysterious demon awakens — and will stop at nothing to steal them. From Carlton Cuse (Lost, Bates Motel) and Meredith Averill (The Haunting of Hill House), the series is a coming-of-age mystery about love, loss, and the unshakable bonds that define family.
Hines will portray Josh Bennett, a charismatic and mysterious new history teacher at Matheson Academy with a secret agenda. Ashmore plays Duncan Locke, a Locke family member with a history with the keys who helps guide the Lockes in their battle against Dodge.
Jones plays Eden Hawkins, a former high school mean girl who is now a newly minted demon with a surprising new force of antagonism to reckon with. Abere will guest star as Amie Bennett, a spirited 11-year-old who becomes fast friends with Bode and an ally against the evil forces threatening the Lockes.
The group joins returning stars Connor Jessup (American Crime) as Tyler Locke, Emilia Jones (Utopia) as Kinsey Locke, Jackson Robert Scott (It) as Bode Locke, Sherri Saum (How to Get Away with Murder) as Ellie Whedon, Darby Stanchfield (Scandal) as Nina Locke, Griffin Gluck as Gabe, Laysla De Oliveira as Dodge, Petrice Jones as Scot, Bill Heck as Rendell, Thomas Mitchell Barnet as Sam Lesser, Cody Bird as Rufus, Jesse Camacho as Doug, and Asha Bromfield as Zadie.
The IDW Publishing Locke & Key comic book franchise, co-created by Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez, has garnered both awards and acclaim during its ten-year run. It has been translated into dozens of languages across the globe and has sold millions of copies worldwide.
Meredith Averill (The Good Wife) serves as co-showrunner on the series with Carlton Cuse. Cuse and series co-creator Joe Hill (the son of Stephen King) co-wrote the first episode with Aron Eli Coleite. Lindsey Springer for Cuse’s production company Genre Arts executive produces alongside David Alpert and Rick Jacobs of Circle of Confusion. Andy and Barbara Muschietti (IT, Mama) executive produce alongside Ted Adams and David Ozer from IDW Entertainment.
