In the wake of Quibi shuttering, HBO Max has picked up Lil Yachty’s dramedy series Public Figures. The show will be re-developed by HBO along with Quality Films—the film and TV division of Yachty’s label home Quality Control records. This marks the first scripted project for Quality Films.
Lil Yachty will star as himself in Public Figures. The show is loosely based on the Atlanta rapper’s life, following a group of NYC friends and their humorous attempts to become influencers. Yachty will executive produce the show alongside Ian Edelmen, Brian Sher, Gregory Jones, and Quality Films and Quality Conrol labelheads Kevin “Coach K” Lee and Pierre “P” Thomas. “This has been two years and a lot of hard work in the making and we are so excited and just so proud” Lee said of Public Figures in a press release.
Lil Yachty’s latest album Lil Boat 3 arrived earlier this year. Read “The Best of Rap This Week: Lil Yachty Finds His Calling and More” over on the Pitch.
