Colin Firth Will Star in a Monster Apocalypse Film NEW YORK WILL EAT YOU ALIVE Based on the Comic ZOMBIE BROTHER — GeekTyrant

Oscar-winner Colin Firth is set to star in an adaptation of the digital comic series Zombie Brother. The project is set up at STXfilms and Tencent Pictures, and the tentative title for the action-comedy project is New York Will Eat You Alive.

This project has been kicking around Hollywood for awhile, and it looks like they are finally going to be moving forward with it. Todd Strauss-Schulson (Isn’t It Romantic), who has been attached to direct it for awhile now, is still attached, and so are producers Channing Tatum and Reid Carolin.

The big new addition is Firth, and it’s pretty cool that they were able to land him for the project! Firth is a hell of a talented actor, and it’s always cool to see him take on fun projects like this. Adam Fogelson, Chairman of the STXfilms Motion Picture Group, said in a statement:

“We always wanted to cast this in a way that would give life to the source material and elevate the action and you can’t achieve that goal any better than hiring Colin Firth. From The King’s Speech to Kingsman, Colin always gives an Oscar-caliber performance. We’re thrilled to be reuniting with him on New York Will Eat You Alive in a role that will allow him to have fun while showcasing his deadpan humor and comic timing.”

A previously released plot summary for the film says that the story will follow Bai, “as he teams up with his best friend Fatty, soon-to-be fiancé Beck, and a group of New Yorkers to survive a monster apocalypse. As the group travels through the city, they uncover the origin of the outbreak and must embark on a quest to stop the apocalypse and save the world.”

The script for the film comes from Alex Rubens, and there were recent revisions by Dan Gregor and Doug Mand.

Zombie Brother was created by Jia Haibo, it’s one of the most popular titles on Tencent’s digital comics and animation platform. The comic book is said to have over 28 billion views. There’s also an extremely popular animated series. The franchise has also been adapted into a stage play.
