In a recent interview with Screen Rant, Shang-Chi actor Simu Liu let his geek flag fly and announced that if he could, he would make the famous meet up between Shang-Chi and Spider-Man, from the Spider-Man story arch “Spider-Island” happen in the MCU. Here is what he said:
There’s this very famous story in which Shang-Chi and Spider-Man have a little team-up moment. I don’t know if you’re familiar with this, but in the comics, Spider-Man needs a little bit of help with his martial arts; he needs to brush up a little bit. And says, yeah, I’ll help you, I’ll develop a whole style based on your abilities – and they call it the Way of the Spider. I’m outing myself as a huge comic book nerd. But that’s something I really want to see and I really hope that Kevin [Feige] gets to see this interview so that he can potentially put it in a future movie somewhere.
This is a cool story arch for Spider-man and I would love to see it come to the big screen. However, the big hole that I see in this dream is that Tom Holland’s contract under the Sony/Marvel truce expires after No Way Home. From the news that keeps coming out of the Sony camp, I don’t think that we will get to see Spidey in the MCU again. This is super unfortunate for Spider-Man and MCU fans because the whole Spider-Island storyline is fun and exciting.
Would you like to see a Shang-Chi/Spider-man team up? Please, let us know.
Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will be released in theaters September 3rd.
