Not long after Cruella was released, Disney announced that they were working on a sequel. The director of the first film Craig Gillespie and writer Tony McNamara are returning to tell the next chapter of the story. It was assumed that Emma Stone would return to reprise her role, but today we have confirmation that she will, in fact, be back.
I guess this means those rumors of her looking to possibly sue Disney over the first film being released on Disney+ ended up not being true. Or, Disney just ended up offering her a ton of money for the sequel.
Regardless, I really enjoyed the first Cruella movie and I thought Emma Stone was awesome as the classic Disney character. It might just be one of my favorite live-action Disney film adaptations and I’m excited to see how they will continue Cruella’s story.
Emma Thompson also starred in the first film and the rest of the cast included Joel Fry, Paul Walter Hauser, Emily Beecham, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, and Mark Strong in supporting roles. I imagine that some of those actors will be back to reprise their roles in the sequel as well.
