Ryanair opening new airport base in Newcastle

Ryanair is opening a new airport base in Newcastle for summer 2022 and will base two aircraft there.

It plans to operate 63 flights per week and 19 routes including 12 new connections to international destinations across Europe, starting in March 2022.

These include Zadar, Milan, Riga, Ibiza, Menorca, Lanzarote, Gran Canaria and Krakow.

The airline says it will directly create 60 jobs and generate more than 400 indirect jobs.

“We are delighted to launch a new UK base, which represents a $200m investment at Newcastle. This development will create direct jobs and offer our UK customers a host of European hotspots to choose from next summer,” said Ryanair CEO Eddie Wilson.

To celebrate the launch of Newcastle’s summer 2022 schedule, it launched a seat sale with fares from £26.99 for travel until 31 October 2022.

“This is very significant news for both the airport and the region. Ryanair’s investment is a sign of growing confidence and will provide the North East public with a great selection of new destinations and extra weekly frequencies,” said Nick Jones, Chief Executive at Newcastle International Airport.

“This will create new jobs for pilots, cabin crew and engineering alongside support services, and will generate economic value for the wider area.”
