Well, for some reason Legendary Picture and Warner Bros. want the director of Godzilla vs. Kong to come back and direct a new film for the studio’s MonsterVerse franchise.
There are no details regarding what this new film will be, but after watching Godzilla Vs. Kong, I don’t know why they would want to have him come back to direct another one. While it was a lot of fun to watch Godzilla and King Kong fight, the script and story for the movie were a complete mess. I tried to watch the film a second time and I just couldn’t do it.
That being said, if Wingard is actually hired to direct another MonsterVerse film, I’m not expecting much. My expectations are rock bottom. Wingard is also currently developing a live-action adaptation of Thundercats for Warner Bros. as well as a Face/Off sequel at Paramount Pictures. While Wingerd has made some great indie films like You’re Next and The Guest, all of his big-budget films like Blair Witch and Death Note have been mediocre at best.
Regardless of the poor storytelling quality, the movie has made over $400 million at the box office, marking the highest-grossing release of the pandemic era.
What do you think about Wingard coming back to make another MonsterVerse movie?
