Jack Antonoff stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon Wednesday night (November 1st), pulling double duty with both an interview and a performance of his band Bleachers’ new song “Modern Girl.”
Host Fallon began the interview by commemorating our 2017 Producer of the Year’s more recent accomplishments, like working on recent blockbuster albums by Taylor Swift and Lana Del Rey. Speaking of Swift, Antonoff also shared his excitement over a song they wrote together, “Cruel Summer,” becoming a No. 1 hit four years after its initial release.
“I’m loving where the music business is going, because it’s just melted down into nothing but what people like,” Antonoff explained. “The fans are God — what they say goes.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Antonoff talked about his recent wedding to actor Margaret Qualley — which he said “felt like 30 years of cynicism exiting my body” — and wrote a song on-the-spot with Fallon about Mexico City.
Then, Bleachers took over the stage with “Modern Girl,” their first piece of new music since 2021’s Take the Sadness Out of Saturday Night. Antonoff leaned into the song’s retro atmosphere with a greaser-like ensemble and stage decor that feels straight out of a 1950s diner.

Last month, Bleachers shared a live album commemorating their 2022 performance at Radio City Music Hall. Revisit our complete ranking of every single song Antonoff has produced here.
